I designed data management systems that enables production manufacturers to increase their productivity by monitoring and troubleshooting across assembly lines

I got the chance to work at Microsoft as a UX contractor where I rapidly prototyped data systems for a diverse range of production manufacturing businesses. The users I catered to encompassed managers, engineers, analysts, and even frontline workers. The systems I crafted shared a common goal; empowering manufacturers with smarter data tools for consolidating and managing their information. By providing users with digital infrastructure for monitoring their information, these systems increase production output and enhance overall efficiency. Several of my designs were transformed into white-label solutions, ensuring their continued use by other designers in future projects.

*Due to an NDA, I am unable to share visuals or further details. However, please feel free to contact me to learn more about my experience.

My Role

I worked as the sole junior designer on the team

This meant I had a lot of autonomy during the design process and could give my own input and make many design decisions. There to provide me clarity was my Product Design Manager whose feedback helped me stay on track throughout this project. My primary responsibilities were planning, iterating & prototyping, as well as presenting and discussing my work with internal stakeholders such as engineers, consultants, and senior designers.

Reflection & Lessons

I learned A LOT throughout my time on these projects. This experience has given me a lot of confidence in my own capabilities as a designer due to the challenges and responsibilities I encountered. Moving forward I will take all the lessons I’ve learned here and apply them to future endeavors. If you would like to learn more feel free to contact me.
Collaborating & Feedback
Communicating with a team provided me with new perspectives and ideas to apply to my work that I may not have come up with on my own.
Balancing Tasks
Distributing my time according to task priority and time blocking helped me ensure that I was working smoothly and efficiently.
Working through Ambiguity
Make the most out of the information that IS available, conduct independent research, and be open to making multiple iterations to tackle every possible outcome.
Managing a Design Library
I expanded my knowledge of design libraries, created customizable components, organized them into the library, and came up with guides on implementation.
